Hate speech and neo-fascism have become growing concerns in Europe and around the world in the 21st century, given the rise of far-right movements. The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has played an important role in addressing these issues.

In this regard, the Court has ruled on cases related to hate speech, thereby establishing in its jurisprudence limits to the fundamental right to freedom of expression.

The ECtHR’s decisions have significant implications for the protection of human rights in Europe, also helping to prevent the phenomenon of democratic institutions’ erosion.
