Abstract

In this master's dissertation, we analyze hospitality as a principle of International Law, exploring its potential to mitigate conflicts between refugees in the Mediterranean and authorities at European maritime and land borders. The central objective is to identify solutions that may put an end to the humanitarian tragedies that, in recent years, have claimed the lives of thousands of people, particularly those from Africa, seeking shelter, security, and better living conditions in Europe. The study will focus specifically on the actions of Spain, Italy, and the European Union (EU), investigating their migration and asylum policies in light of Public International Law, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the principle of hospitality, state sovereignty, and the Charter of the United Nations.…
